Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the upfront fees charged to sell my yearling through Australian Pacing Gold?
A: A fee of $220 (incl GST) is charged to catalogue your yearling. This must be paid upon lodging your entry by the deadline. The cataloguing fee covers the cost of pedigree research and marketing.
There are no more fees to be paid by the vendor until the day of the sale. The vendor is then required to pay a sale day fee of $137.50 (incl GST) by 9am to present a yearling in the sale ring.

Q: Do I have to provide a detailed pedigree for my yearling?
A: When you lodge your entry with an Australian Pacing Gold co-ordinator, remember to complete all sections of the form. This includes the name of the sire and the dam. No other pedigree details are necessary because Australian Pacing Gold engages services of professional researchers. Our researchers are meticulous to the extreme when they examine and complete your yearling's pedigree but a proof copy is always sent to the vendor for final checking.

Q: On the back of the Australian Pacing Gold entry form there is condition relating to upset price. What is an upset price?
A: The upset price is the minimum price a yearling can be sold for in the sale ring. In Australian Pacing Gold's case the upset price is $4000.

Q: Can I put a reserve figure on my yearling?
A: Australian Pacing Gold is conducted as an unreserved sale. Therefore no reserve prices will be acknowledged by the auctioneer. If a yearling's price doesn't meet expectations, the vendor has the right to bid on his lot.

Q: If I retain my yearling, can I still make it eligible to race in the Australian Pacing Gold series?
A: By retaining your yearling, you have the same rights as any other purchaser at an Australian Pacing Gold sale. To make your yearling eligible to compete in the race series you must pay a 10 per cent commission on purchase price and indicate your intention to sustain for the race series on sale day. The sustaining fee is $951.50 (including GST).

Q: What if I do not wish to race my horse in the Australian Pacing Gold series?
A: If you decide to retain your yearling without paying the first sustaining fee, the commission rate is reduced from 10 per cent to eight per cent.

Q: Leading up to the sale, my yearling becomes injured and isn't fit enough to present in the sale ring. Are there any penalties for withdrawing the yearling from an Australian Pacing Gold sale?
A: Our cataloguing fee is non-refundable but there are no penalties for withdrawing a Lot from the sale.
