APG's 2018 Brisbane Sale is a Hidden Gem

The 2018 Ladbrokes APG Brisbane Sale represents a hidden gem for owners and trainers looking for that Group One winning feeling.

It is no secret that the Queensland Harness Racing Industry has taken a few whacks in recent times, but the tide is turning, and the reality is that this year's Ladbrokes APG Brisbane Sale offers buyers more earning opportunities than ever before.

Although this year's Brisbane catalogue features a total of only 45 yearlings, the quality is exceptionally strong, and all 45 yearlings are exclusively eligible for APG's $100,000 Brisbane Sales Race.  That's right - a $100,000 Sales Race that is exclusively restricted to the 45 yearlings that go under the hammer at Eagle Farm on Sunday, 28 January.

If that isn't enough incentive, Albion Park will also play host to:

  • both the $350,000 colts & $350,000 fillies Finals of APG's National 2yo Series
  • a $50,000 2yo  APG Championship Race towards the end of our 2018 yearlings' 2yo season, plus
  • a $51,000 3yo APG Championship Race towards the end of our 2018 crop's 3yo season

Many interstate buyers are unaware of how lucrative Queensland's QBred scheme is, currently offering owners a $7,500 bonus for their horse's first win as a 2yo, a further $7,500 for their first win as a 3yo, and $2,500 for their first win as a 4yo.

Of course, it's one thing to offer great prizemoney, but it's equally important that the horses on offer are capable of taking advantage of those opportunities.

Fortunately, APG's 2018 Brisbane catalogue is arguably the strongest in the sale's history, and compares very favourably with what's on offer at APG's other sales, and also the New Zealand Sales, as evidenced by the following statistics relating to this year's yearlings:

New Zealand

No. Horses Catalogued

Prizemoney earned by Dams

Average Earnings per Dam

No. Dams with earnings $100,000+

No. of Foals 3yo+

No. of Winners

Percentage Winners to Foals (3yo+)
