Ladbrokes APG Race Series now offers over $1.8million in Prizemoney

Commencing with the graduates of the 2018 Sales, APG is thrilled to announce a massive prizemoney boost for its Race Series, which will now see horses compete for over $1.8million in prizemoney.

Under the enhancements, APG will conduct a Group One 2yo Race Series and a separate Group One 3yo Race Series in the April/May timeslot, as well as conducting 6 x $50,000 Group Two 2yo Championship Races and 6 x $51,000 Group Three 3yo Championship Races in mid-to-late July. 

A brief summary of the various components that comprise the Race Series and the Championship Races is as follows:
2yo Series

The 2yo Series will feature a single round of heats leading into a pair of $350,000 finals (one for colts & geldings and one for fillies).

2yo Championship Races

These races will be scheduled for July, and will only be open to eligible APG horses that did not contest one of the $350,000 Group One 2yo Finals.

Melbourne and Sydney will each host 2 x $50,000 Group Two Championship Races (one for colts and one for fillies), whilst Brisbane and Perth will each host a single mixed sex Championship Race (PBD/Sex).

3yo Series

The 3yo Series will feature a single round of heats leading into a pair of $210,000 finals (one for colts & geldings and one for fillies).

3yo Championship Races

These races will be scheduled for July, and will only be open to eligible APG horses that did not contest one of the $210,000 Group One 3yo Finals.

Melbourne and Sydney will each host 2 x $51,000 Group Two Championship Races (one for colts and one for fillies), whilst Brisbane and Perth will each host a single mixed sex Championship Race (PBD/Sex).
 

Important Features

However, in brief, some of the key elements are:

  • Horses can qualify for the finals of the Race Series from their home state (NSW, QLD, VIC & WA);
     
  • WA heat winners will each receive a $15,000 travel subsidy, should they elect to contest a final;
     
  • The main race series will be conducted in a late-April / mid-May timeslot (a week or two later than previously);
     
  • The APG Championship Races (conducted in July), offer an excellent earning opportunity late in the season for horses that missed the Group One finals in May;
     
  • Eligibility for both the 2yo and 3yo Series plus the Championship Races relies upon making the following payments (there is no separate payment schedule for the 3yo Series):
     
    • $700 on Sales Day;
    • $700 on 1 June;
    • $700 on 1 September; and
    • $1,250 on 1 December
  • Alternatively, buyers can make a single payment on sales day of $2,750 that will see their yearling fully eligible with no more to pay.
