Huntsville colts have now topped the APG yearling sales two weeks in a row.
Prominent owner Tony Licastro of Kingstead Lodge paid the top price of $140,000 for a striking Huntsville colt out of Group 1 winner Miss Halfpenny in Sydney on Sunday.
A handsome youngster by the boom sire topped the Ipswich sale the previous week, when he was knocked down to trainer Shane Graham for $60,000.
The Sydney colt (Lot 228) was sold by Phil and Denise Thurston’s Celestial Standardbreds and comes from a family stacked with Group 1 winners.
His dam was NSW 2YO pacer of the year and won $235,000. She is a half sister to NSW Oaks winner Anntonia (1.49.8, $411K) and two other $100,000 earners.
The Thurston youngster also won best presented colt at the yearling parade before the sale.

Huntsville has one colt (Lot 363) in our Perth sale, coming up on March 2, out of a full sister to Ballarat Cup winner Restrepo (1.52.4, $527K), who is likely to be highly sought after.

The Sydney sale grossed $1.5 million, with a clearance rate of 76 per cent and average price of $36,800. This is an increase of 18.6% in average price from last year’s $31,042. From 41 lots sold, Twenty-five colts sold at an average of $38,900, while 16 fillies averaged out at $33,954.
Once again, we would like to thank all of the and buyers who joined us a Warwick Farm over the weekend as well as the vendors and breeders who worked so hard to make the sale a success.
Interested buyers can still make offers on the passed in lots from the sale and have the chance to be part of our Race Series. The passed in lots and their reserve prices can be seen on our Results Page and APG will negotiate with vendors on the buyer’s behalf.
