A WINTER escape is on the cards for star Victorians Tough Tilly and Beyond Delight.

Successful in their Australian Pacing Gold Bullion Finals at Club Menangle last night, the pair have been earmarked for a Queensland campaign by record-breaking horsewoman Emma Stewart.

Along with various support features such as The Golden Girl and Four-Year-Old Championship, Stewart has her sights set on earning a berth in The Rising Sun.

An invitation only race for three and four-year-olds, the $300,000 The Rising Sun is scheduled to be conducted at Albion Park on July 9.

“I’m looking at heading to Queensland with them and a few others over the winter,” Stewart said. “There are some nice races during their carnival we will aim at.

“I’d like to think Tough Tilly and Beyond Delight did enough to get an invite into The Rising Sun with their wins last night.”

With Kate Gath in the cart, Tough Tilly was forced to work overtime in the ‘death seat’ from barrier seven as her stablemate, Joanna, led from gate four.

Forging her way to the front halfway along the home straight, the daughter of Captaintreacherous staved off a late charge from another of her stablemates, Ladies In Red, to score by a neck.

Joanna was a head away third to complete a Stewart-trained trifecta.

“That was a super run,” Stewart said. “All three went well, but you can’t take anything away from Tilly.

“She won last year’s APG Final and has certainly earned this win.”

Stopping the clock in 1:53, Tough Tilly’s time was 1.4 seconds slower than Beyond Delight in the ‘boys’ division.

Driven a treat by Greg Sugars, Beyond Delight enjoyed the perfect one-one trip on his way to a three-metre win from a fast-finishing Drain The Swamp.

Western Australian raider, Mighty Ronaldo, was a head away third.

Raced on lease by Stewart’s partner, Clayton Tonkin, Beyond Delight took his record to 10 wins and three seconds from 19 starts for earnings of $206,600.

“With the run he got he was always going to be finishing well,” Stewart said. “He’s a nice horse on the way up and should make his way through the grades quite comfortably.”
