A KNOCKOUT blow at Albion Park tonight has lifted Balboa Rock to early favouritism for next month’s Qbred.
Taken north by premier Victorian horsewoman Emma Stewart, Balboa Rock completed a clean sweep of the APG series, shortening his odds ahead of the futurity.
The Qbred Triad Final is scheduled to be conducted at the same venue on August 19.
“He will remain in Queensland for the Qbred,” Stewart said. “Tonight’s race and the Qbred have always been his main aims for the season and to get a win in the APG Final is a terrific way to start his time up here.”
With local reinswoman Trista Dixon in the cart, Balboa Rock was pushed through from the inside of the back row to gain the run of the race behind the leader, Synchronizer.
Finishing strongly along the sprint lane, the colt cruised to a four-metre win from Dele Row.
Synchronizer battled on to be a head away third.
“It was very nice to be given the drive behind such a wonderful type,” Dixon said. “He has matured a bit and settled in well.
“I was quite happy with him last week in his heat and this week he was better again.”
Rating 1:56.1 over 1660 metres, the two-year-old took his record to two wins from three starts for a bankroll of $89,691.
