The young New Zealand bred matron Carrera Mystic, an unraced Art Major mare from one of New Zealand’s most successful families, is going up for auction in our upcoming online Winter Mix Sale on August 16 and 17.
Owned by Harness Racing Victoria board member Dennis Bice and his wife Brenda, the mare (Lot 51) is being offered as part of a reduction of breeding stock of Yorkshire Park Standardbreds.
Carrera Mystic’s only foal of racing age is a two-year-old colt by Captain Crunch, which is being trained by north-eastern horseman Mark Buckingham and is expected to qualify next month.
“She’s since produced a Pebble Beach yearling colt who we sold at the Melbourne sales earlier this year and a weanling colt by Soho Tribeca,” Dennis said.
“She was not served last season.”
Carrera Mystic ranks as a half-sister to the prolific Gloucester Park winner and Group placegetter Carrera Mach ($239,464) and the dual NZ winner Marrera.
Their dam, Maheer Mystic, was a Bettor’s Delight mare of out the top racemare Fern Glen, a former NZ 2YO Filly of the Year who became the dam of eight winners including the WA Pacing Cup winner and NZ Sires’ Stakes 3YO champion Maheer Lord ($515,470).
Fern Glen is also the second dam of the NSW Carousel and Renshaw Cup winner Port Au Prince ($295,450) and the cups winners Ideal Success ($217,459) and Full Speed Ahead.
Other members of the immediate family are the NSW Len Smith Mile winner and Inter Dominion Final placegetter Cya Art 1:47.5 ($460,870), the dual Group 3 winner Cyamach ($499,696) and Feel The Burn (Tas. Mother of Pearl).
Bidding opens on Sunday, August 16 at 12 noon and closes on Monday, August 17 at 5pm. For more information on these and other Lots, check the catalogue and register as a bidder today!
