Captain Ravishing after Big Win

AFTER one of his many masterful drives, Gavin Lang played down the praise by making an interesting observation coming into The Eureka.

Caught in a seemingly impossible position at the top of the home straight, Lang decided to angle towards the fence instead of pulling to the outside, where he magically weaved through traffic to emerge triumphant.

With onlookers in awe of the drive Lang stated “the thing about making moves like that is you’re a genius when it pays off, but a mug when it doesn’t”.

The Worlds Richest Harness Racing Event

Heading into tonight’s Club Menangle meeting, Victorian horseman Ahmed Taiba understands precisely what Lang was saying. Taiba is poised to contest the world’s richest harness racing event – $2.1million The Eureka – with the Australian Pacing Gold purchase. Captain Ravishing, which has had anything but a traditional lead up.

While his nine rivals have raced or trialed on regular basis as part of their preparation for The Eureka, Captain Ravishing will head into the 2400-metre encounter first-up from a six-month spell.

Lead up to The Eureka

The son of Captaintreacherous hasn’t raced since his seventh in the Miracle Mile, won by another APG buy, Catch A Wave on March 4.

“He hasn’t had what you would call a normal build up, but if you look at the field, every horse in the race has had different preparation,” Taiba said. “He was below par in the Miracle Mile and was probably screaming for the paddock, so it was decided to give him that break. It was all about the horse from the day after Miracle Mile and how we can win The Eureka.”

“His work has been all about putting miles into his legs and I’ve done every single kilometer I wanted, so he’s got the grounding. If you look at him right now, the proof is in the pudding…he’s ready to go.”

Final Words before the Race

One time favorited for the feature, Captain Ravishing has drifted to $14 with TAB Fixed Odds after drawing barrier seven.

Queensland wonder, Leap To Fame – also an APG purchase – is the $1.90 favourite from gate 11.

“I’m not going to lie, the pressure is on, but for some strange reason, I’m pretty calm about it,” Taiba said. “I’ve never had a race where I have had to prepare for like this…the build up has been incredible.

“Guess we’ll know on Saturday night whether I’m a genius or a mug!”
