Chicago Bart, a $50,000 buy at the our Gold Coast sale in 2022, established himself as one of the best his age this season with a resounding success in the $50,000 APG Gold Bullion Final for three-year-old colts and geldings at Albion Park on Saturday night (April 13).

Starting from the wide No. 6 gate, the colt was forced to work overtime in the early part before assuming control with 1200 meters left to travel. He was never afterwards headed.

Reeling off sectionals in 27.1, 28.8, 28.4 and 28.8 seconds, Chicago Bart was out on his own at the end, scoring effortlessly by 8.6 meters.

His winning mile rate of 1:52.9 sliced a whopping four seconds off his previous record.

Chicago Bart has now won three races with three seconds from seven starts for $50,407 in stakes.

A finalist in the NSW Derby in March, Chicago Bart is raced by Victorian western districts owner Gary Barton and is trained by Luke McCarthy, who drove him. The pair also combined to win the opening event with Muscle Bart, a product of the APG Melbourne sale in 2020.

The classic proved a triumph for the Woodlands Stud sire Sweet Lou, who left the quinella pair in Chicago Bart and Bronski Zulu.

Bred by Kate Baring, Chicago Bart is the sixth foal and fourth winner out of the NSW Breeders Challenge champion New York Fashion, a Falcon Seelster mare who ranks as the grand-dam of last year’s NSW Breeders Challenge 2YO Final winner Nathan Street.
