Waverider at 2022 APG sale

Graduates of the Australian Pacing Gold Perth sales landed the thick end of the prize in both Group 3 classics run at Gloucester Park on Friday night (May 24).

Waverider, a $60,000 purchase at the 2022 sale for Kevin Jeavons and Gino Monaco, sat parked throughout before scoring a convincing win in the $50,000 3YO Pearl Classic.

The Downbytheseaside colt, who was bred by Mike Howie’s Copper Lodge, took his record to six wins and three placings from 11 starts for $140,161 in stakes. He won the $100,000 APG Sales Classic as a two-year-old last season.

Waverider is the third foal and third winner out of the Major In Art mare Premium Copper, the dam also of the Gloucester Park and Menangle winner Blue Stone (1:53.9) and a member of the same family as the WA Sires Produce winner Copper Strike, the Pearl 2YO winners The Miki Taker and Willowleaf Boy, Copagrin ($241,352), Copper Beach Girl (WA Breeders Stakes), Bettor Be Oscar ($294,823) and the exported Caveman ($249,843).

Graduates of the 2023 APG sale trifectaed the $50,000 Champagne Classic for two-year-olds on the same card.

Reinette, a Vincent filly bred by Boyanup horseman Dennis Roche, outfinished the colts Captain Stirling and American Major to notch her third win from six starts. A $15,000 buy, Reinette has now earned $44,557 in stakes for her ownership group which includes trainer Frank Nafranec.

She is the second foal from the dual Group 1 finalist Aqueensomewhere (1:57.3), a Somebeachsomewhere half-sister to the multiple WA Group winner Jumbo Operator ($313,175), the WA Sales Classic winner Getaway Plan and Tubbs Farquhar ($111,657) and to the dam of the outstanding Perth racemare Wonderful To Fly ($742,477).

The Champagne Classic placegetters Captain Stirling (2nd) and American Major (3rd) sold for $32,000 and $90,000 respectively at the APG sales.
