In an impressive display, Nordic Reign emerged victorious in the $100,000 Breeders Crown for two-year-old trotting fillies at Melton on the Saturday night. What makes this triumph even more special to us, is that Nordic Reign is a graduate of the APG sales, a testament to the quality and promise that the sale showcases to the harness racing world.

Bred by Erin Taylor and sired by the mighty Volstead, Nordic Reign was picked up by Troy Walker at the APG Melbourne sale in 2022 for $20,000.

Under the guidance of reinsman Matt Newberry from Goulburn Valley, Nordic Reign led throughout the classic race. His win securing not only the coveted Breeders Crown title but also delivering Matt his inaugural Group 1 success.

Trained by Matt’s accomplished father, John Newberry, Nordic Reign has proven to be a rising star in the racing world. With five victories and two placements from nine starts, the filly has accumulated an impressive $84,350 in stakes, showcasing the potential that was recognized by astute buyers at the APG sale.

Nordic Reign’s pedigree adds another layer to her story of success. Her dam, Tricia Powell NZ, an unraced Sundon mare, has previously produced the Victorian country cups winner Travel Bug ($172,591) and the recent winner Ifimust, exemplifying a lineage of winners that Nordic Reign continues to uphold.

As Nordic Reign continues to leave her mark on the racing scene, her journey serves as another example of the caliber of horses available through the APG sales. From the auction floor to the glory of the Breeders Crown, Nordic Reign’s success is a celebration of the talent we have in the Australian harness racing industry. Congratulations to connections of this fantastic filly!
