HAVING completed a perfect “mini campaign”, exceptionally-bred youngster Major Delight is heading for a spell.

Making her debut in an Australian Pacing Gold Bullion heat on May 4, Major Delight maintained her unbeaten status by claiming the $150,000 Final at Tabcorp Park Melton last night.

In doing so the two-year-old joined her dam, Lady Euthenia, and older brother, Max Delight, as a Group One winner.

Among the best of her crop, Lady Euthenia secured four Group Ones as a two-year-old before adding a fifth at three.

Max Delight was a dual Group One winner as a three-year-old before capturing the Victoria Cup at five.

Understandably pleased with Major Delight’s performances, trainer Emma Stewart revealed the filly will be given a short spell ahead of several key features towards the end of the season.

“She’s going back to the paddock now,” Stewart said. “This was just a mini campaign specifically for the APG series, and now that it is over, she can have another break.

“She’s eligible for the Breeders’ Crown and Vicbred Super Series, so she will have a busy backend of the season.”

Driven by Mark Pitt, Major Delight led throughout from barrier two to register a soft 10-and-a-half metre win from her stablemate, Keayang Blue Jeans.

Paradise Valley was a head away third in 1:54.8 over 1720 metres.

“She did well in her heat and her work had lifted from that first run, so we couldn’t really see her being beaten, especially from the draw,” Stewart said.

“After she got to the front and Mark maintained an even tempo she was never going to be run down.

“She did it as easily as she pleased and could have gone quicker if pushed.”
