Sydney professional poker player and hobby harness breeder-owner Gary Benson has one of the strongest hands in our upcoming Winter Mix Sale this weekend.
Benson and his close friend Steven Hegyi have nominated eight trotters for the sale including four superbly bred broodmares and three yearlings and a weanling by the 1:49.6 American import Dancinginthedark M.
They are all descendants of the Group-winning and producing mare Kim’s Fantasy.
Hegyi said: “The horses are all on the market as I am retiring and moving to Thailand.”
Undoubtedly the pick of the broodmare contingent is Lot 86, Pocket Fantasy. A Breeders Crown Final placegetter herself, she is the dam of seven sub 2:00 winning trotters highlighted by the 2021 Australian Trotter of the Year and four-time Group 1 winner Plymouth Chubb ($407,270).
Others from Pocket Fantasy have been the cups winner My Skypocket ($132,768), Edge Hill ($110,161), the Tatlow winner Dublin Chubb, Garston Girl and Huxham Chubb.
Pocket Fantasy is being offered with a positive test to the Great Southern Star winner and emerging, young sire Speeding Spur.
A pair of Pocket Fantasy’s daughters in Garston Girl (by Lawman) and Miss Nye (I’m Stately) and a granddaughter, Stately Salome (by I’m Stately), are also part of Benson and Hegyi’s draft.
The winner of 10 races and $65,570, Garston Girl has a 100 percent record at the stud with four winners from four foals including the top flight WA square-gaiter Mystery Fred ($113,080), the cup winner Mangana Joe and Stately Salome (3 wins).
Garston Girl has been served by Dancinginthedark M.
Miss Nye, who was unraced and has a positive test to Speeding Spur, has a weanling colt by Dancinginthedark M in the auction.
Garston Girl and Stately Salome both have yearling colts by Dancinginthedark M listed in the catalogue, while Stately Salome has a yearling filly by him.
