Prominent south-east breeder-owner Peter Medhurst, who has been involved in the sport for over 40 years and has brought out smart performers such as Thorninmyside, Pete’s Elect, Roses In Paris and Catch A Bouquet, has a three-strong draft in our upcoming Adelaide Sale.
Prepared by Samantha Hill Racing and featuring proven producing families, there is a great chance for buyers to pick up a yearling that will go on to win on the track. With Peters breeding and Sams prep work, you can get a much better start than that.
Spearheading the Medhurst offering is an Art Major sister to the Southern Cross two-year-old and Vicbred 3YO Silver winner No Notthebuttons (1:53.9) and a half-sister to the SA Sapling runner-up Centrefold Star.
She is Lot 507.
“She’s my pick of the whole bunch. I really like her,” Sam said.
“She’s a fantastic worker and beautiful to look at. She’s stunning.”
Medhurst has also nominated a colt and filly by the former USA 2YO Colt of the Year and emerging siring force Stay Hungry, the sire of last year’s NSW Breeders Challenge two-year-old champion Ark Sea.
Both belong to the same family.
Lot 509 is a daughter of the SA BOTRA Pace winner and Albion Park Mare of the Year Purple Royale. The winner of 26 races and $130,000 in stakes, Purple Royal has a 100 percent record at the stud with three winners from three foals.
“She’s a nice big, chunky girl,” Sam said.
The Stay Hungry colt, Lot 516, hails from a maternal line matched by few in the SA sale catalogue.
His first four dams are all winners and they have left 28 foals for 25 winners between them including three Southern Cross Final champions – Thorninmyside, King Grin and Forty Seven Flash.
He is the second foal out of the Art Major mare Crown Royale, a winner of six races.
“He’s a compact, muscular colt who’s got a long stride on him,” Sam said.
