A BUSY schedule awaits unbeaten youngster Agent Black.

Making a winning debut in an Australian Pacing Gold heat a fortnight ago, Agent Black maintained the perfect start to his career by capturing last night’s $125,000 Final at Club Menangle.

Understandably impressed with the trotter, trainer Shane Graham discussed his plans for the son of Sebastian K, which include travelling back and forth along the east coast.

“He’s got the Foundation heats coming up, so he will stay in New South Wales for that series,” Graham said. “After the heats he has a few weeks where he can be kept fresh for the Final.

“It’s a similar situation after that, where he has time for a short let-up before the Breeders’ Challenge, then he comes home for the Triad races.

“Daniel (Cordina, owner) is also keen on taking him down to Victoria for The Redwood, but that is a long way away yet.

“He’ll have to keep improving to be a force in those races, but based on what he has shown so far, I can’t see any reason why he won’t.”

With Graham in the cart, Agent Black was caught wide from barrier seven before working to the front as early leader, Erica, was eased to take a trail.

Forced to dig deep along the home straight, the colt staved off a determined challenge from Erica to score by a short half-head.

Star Of Patrick was five-and-a-half metres away third in 2:03 over 1609 metres.

“It got close at the finish, but I was glad he held on,” Graham said. “To be honest, I thought the other one got me on the line, but luckily it stayed in my favour.

“He has shown a lot of potential the whole way along as he’s done everything we wanted from the get go.

“In these early races for the babies, if you do everything right, even if you’re not the best in the race, you’re a chance.”
